Frankie’s Birth

I think it’s fair to say birth photography and being a birthing partner is one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.  I’ve known Frankie’s mum Lindsey since I was 11 and when she said she would like me to be a birth partner I was over the moon.  I asked her if she fancied having the birth photographed too.  Lucky for me her and Daddy Dan were up for it.

I got the call to say contractions had started so I headed straight up to Bassetlaw Hospital with a bag of treats and my camera feeling really excited.  I was so lucky to be there to capture the build up to fully dilated, his first breath, first look for mummy, daddy, his big sister and relatives, first holds,  cuddles & lots of tears.

Frankie was turned as he was transverse. Waters were broken and at 4cm there was a lot of bouncing on the ball and walking around the birth pool before the cannula and drip went in.  I timed contractions, we ate treats,  there was chat about Sons of Anarchy, Peaky Blinders, Breaking Bad and   what names they had for their little man.

One of the most memorable lines of the whole experience had to come from Dan who said to Linz in his Sheffield lingo… “What’s up with thee”  whilst she was having strong contractions.  “Errr, What’s up with me?  I’m in labour!” haha brilliant stuff.

Lindsey was an absolute machine and complete trooper.  Just gas and air and nothing on pushing.  She pushed for 12 minutes and Frankie weighed 8lb 1oz.  Big sister Sienna was so happy to meet her little brother she didn’t want to leave him.

I can’t thank them enough for letting me be a part of such a magical experience.  Watching Linz’s positive mind and her power on through with pains and excitement it’s fair to say she made me not scared of labour.  I just loved every second of it and it’s the best thing I’ve ever been lucky enough to capture.

The emotions of it all is something I will never forget! Thank you linz and Dan for sharing the birth of your gorgeous boy with me. I’m still buzzing and would love to photograph a birth again.

Here’s some of my favourite images from the birth.
